5/3/2023 0 Comments The darkness ii cliffhangerWouldn’t boot until I did the verify files thing. My only gripe is I hit a lot of the common (based on searching and finding a lot of posts with similar issues) glitches in the PC version. Good voice acting and production values too. Game is just fun as hell and very cathartic to play. I really liked it! I liked the first one a lot, but never got around to this and had it in the Steam library from a sale when it was dirt cheap. Working on knocking some shorter games out of the backlog while waiting for God of War. Oh wow, random to see this on the 1st page as I just came to post a LTTP as I just finished it on PC. In my vision for how the game could have been amazing instead of pretty good If you have this thing sitting in your Steam library, give it a play, you can finish it in a night and you'll have fun the whole time (even though the last 20 minutes of it is kind of lame).Įdit: Also the voice acting is surprisingly competent. As far as linear one and done shooters go, this game is a thrill. Looks good, gun sounds are good (and come on, Mike Patton), gameplay loop is satisfying and the pacing is nice and tight. The mental hospital stuff had a good vibe, and were nice little breaks in the game, I could have done with a little bit more of that, maybe a light puzzle or two in there. It just might have felt a bit more complete with another act to it. Hell, I know how that shit goes, and they did a good job with what's there for sure. It feels like the developers just had to wrap up what they had, like maybe a few levels and abilities had to get cut for time/budget. It felt about the right length for what the game offered, but if it just had that third stepping stone into more strategic game play and a bit expanded moveset, it could have easily peaked higher and had a satisfying conclusion. Honestly the only gripes I had with it (aside from things that are just a relic of 2012 gaming) are that it's about 2 hours too short, and the last level is kind of underwhelming. I steam rolled right through it in two sittings, really sucks there probably won't be a third installment. It looks good, it sounds good, the story is engaging enough for a comic book video game story, and it's just a blast. The game has a nice rip and tear rhythm to it, the combat encounters are well designed and offer enough variety through the 5 hour campaign that I was always on my toes. Basically you're quad wielding anyway though with your darkness powers. The dual wielding really has weight to it, even though I usually go single gun because I like ADS. Running it at 4K60 this game looks amazing, on par with third party PS4 games imo. The art style really lends itself well to the modern era. I've been playing Metal Gear Rising lately (awesome game) but got to a part that was giving me trouble, so I wanted a nice little palette cleanser. So this game was free on PC recently, which reminded me I bought it for a dollar in a humble bundle last year, heard it was short and always meant to play it.
