5/3/2023 0 Comments California sun coronaNow, That night was more important to me than the time I got drunk with Tiny Tim at Roy Radin's home on Long Island so many years ago. My friend invited me to a benefit dance where the Rivieras were playing, the they were fantastic. He was working for my friend's wife on the assembly line at Bendix. Ernie from Littleton, CoI met Marty in 1986.Have heard that the drummer is now deceased? Jennifur Sun from RamonaThis tune just ROCKS.We toured with them in Springfield, Champaign, and Decatur. Have lost contact with them over the years. We had a lot in common because we also were a garage band from Illinois and pretty close to the same age. William Sheedy from IllinoisI toured through Illinois with these guys back in the 60s.C from ChicagoThe license plate on the album cover is not Indiana, it's Land of Lincoln, Illinois.John Swoveland Bass Guitarist (the Riverias) from South Bend, In.Marty (lead singer) and Joe (lead guitarist) have passed.I got the biggest kick as a DOORS fan that the song was used at the beginning of Oliver Stone's movie. Terry Klein from Cartoon Violence did the sound and Marty's rendition Warm California Sun would totally rock the place when he sang. Jlizard from Indianapolis, InWe sang karaoke at the Green Onion in South Bend which Marty Fortson co owned in the nineties.THEY'LL WALK, AND, I'LL WALK THEY'LL TWIST AND I'LL TWIST.ETC. Denise From The Mitten from MiYou have the chorus words backward. And the video ON YOUTUBE that starts out with two of the munsters dancing, BATMAN dancing and BARBARA EDEN DANCING, etc. from Youngstown, OhioI don't know why this song didn't make it in Billboard's top 100 songs of 1964. I might be mistaken but I'm fairly certain this song was used in an episode of That 70's Show when the gang went to California. The other band members dropped out one by one under pressure from their parents to go on to college and stop this rock 'n' roll nonsense at once. And they were literally a teenage garage band, in which the lead singer Marty "Bo" Fortson left shortly after this single came out to join the Marines and go off to Vietnam. So, were The Rivieras from Orange County, California, during this heyday of the surf rock revolution? Nope, they were from South Bend, Indiana, specifically alumni of South Bend Central High School. The Rivieras then covered it, and launched themselves into history by becoming one-hit wonders. Their song ended up being recorded by the New Orleans singer Joe Jones and released by EMI, fizzling out after barely scratching the top 100. Glover was a producer for an independent record label King Records Levy was the founder and owner of Roulette Records, which Tommy James told Songfacts was run by the mafia. It was originally credited as written by Henry Glover and Morris Levy. No matter what is found, however, the odds are good that on August 21, the world’s solar astronomers will be at least a little bit smarter at the end of the critical 90 minutes than they were before it."California Sun" is a cheery, straightforward song with a shadowy, convoluted history, so let's try to fill in the gaps as best we can. This time around, there may or may not be a discovery as fundamental as what we now know as helium. The newly identified gas, appropriately, would take its name from Helios, the ancient Greek personification of the sun. It was during the Augeclipse, for example, that French astronomer Jules Janssen, studying the spectral lines in the fleetingly visible corona, noticed the signature of a buoyant gas that exists on Earth but had not yet been discovered here. It is impossible to say now what discoveries might be made during the fleeting 90 minutes of eclipse totality, but history offers precedent. The spiky corona of five years ago will likely give way to a quieter one, with a great deal of complex activity near the solar equator but much less in the north and south hemispheres. At the moment, the sun is in a solar minimum phase. In 2012, the sun was going through one of the phases known as the solar maximum - when it is especially active and turbulent. The 2017 spectacle will also afford an opportunity to compare the current appearance of the corona to the way it looked during the 2012 eclipse - and the difference should be significant.
